Wheelchair Recycling

Getting a new wheelchair is great and exciting, yet what do you do with the old one. It may be tattered and worn, but it can still have use to it. Maybe you have a relative who is no longer with us and now you have a chair sitting alone. Don’t just throw it away. There are many Americans as well as those around the World who don’t have the means to get wheelchairs, but need them. Your donation/resale of used equipment can benefit others.

IndependenceFirst Mobility Store (formerly the Wheelchair Recycling Program) started with the idea of helping other countries, but soon found a great need here in Wisconsin. They take used wheelchairs and other mobility equipment and clean, repair and sell them to others who cannot afford new equipment or whose insurance will not cover them.

Handiexchange is a website that is building a directory of services and items for sale or needed. Posting a classified ad is free. It will allow those who seek a wheelchair to search for it, no matter where in the U.S. or Canada you are.

Wheels for Humanity is another company that handles recycled wheelchairs and sends them to other countries. No matter where you want your wheelchair to go, someone else can benefit greatly from your help.
