Under pressure – that burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets
Seems like the world has us all under pressure and Queen captured that in their song Under Pressure. We need to dig ourselves from under this pressure. Find a way to lighten our mood and our spirits. Let’s turn our attention to music.
Let’s play this backwards and see if it gets any better! (Mimics backwards voice) …Freddy is the devil!……Freddy is the devil! audio clip

Just the other day I was looking through the library for a book. I looked under self-help, inspirational even humor. No matter where I searched, I couldn’t find The Book on raising children. There are books on almost every other subject, but when it comes to a how-to book on raising children, it doesn’t exist.
Whether we think our parents are the greatest or we think we are left on our own,...

It seems like it was just Friday. Amazing how quickly time goes when you’re away from work. Like my cat, sometimes getting up in the morning and crawling out from under the covers is not welcome.
And this coming from a guy who always seems motivated and ready to go? Yep.
On a given Monday, I too may lay there after the alarm goes off contemplating my next move. Conscience usually wins out.

Have you ever been to a restaurant with a friend with a vision impairment? Well, either you had to read the menu to them or the waiter had to. While few people would object to being read a menu, a little thinking about this procedure makes you realize that it’s less independent for the diner.
A recent visit to a Cracker Barrel restaurant garnered this photo. They have already put into place menus...

Let me start today’s story with a tool that has many openings. To me there is nothing that compares to the multifunctional use of a can opener. Not only can it open bottles, but cans, jars, frozen dinners and more. It took creative thinking to find this invaluable tool.
Frustration was just something I dealt with when I wanted something opened. I’d have to ask one of my brothers or sisters to...

With an unimposing walk, Luca Patuelli made his way to the center of the BC Center in Vancouver, Canada. He was on the world’s stage. He was one of many helping entertain thousands. It’s the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Paralympic Games.
At first, just thought he was another entertainer. Then I looked him up. He looked familiar. Through a little digging, I found out that he was on...

I feel the eyes beading down on me. It’s like being hounded by the paparazzi. Yet I don’t consider myself a famous person or celebrity. At least not in the sense of having a gaggle of paparazzi following me around everywhere. But sometimes it feels like that.
Having a physical disability, or any major noticeable difference, you get noticed. People will stare or act differently. A mom will stand...

It was January and I was flipping through channels and found the Winter X Games. What made me pause is something I didn’t expect in such an extreme sporting event. It was Mono Skier Cross. What’s most eye catching about this, is that most networks, at least in the U.S. steer clear of sporting events involving people with disabilities.
The race debuted at the Winter X Games in 2005 and became a...

Full-service stations used to be the mainstay for automobile drivers. You could pull right in and have your gas pumped, windows washed and your oil checked. People dressed in their Sunday best enjoyed the convenience of someone else pumping their gas.
Self-service came along and offered drivers a chance to save some money. Pump it yourself and the extra money stays in your pocket. Self-service caught on...

Traveling with a disability whether it is a cane, walker or wheelchair, you do lose a certain amount of spontaneity. You don’t have the ability to just get up and go, literally. So to make the trip enjoyable for yourself and those that you are traveling with, organization is the key, humor and good moods are the necessity.
Before you Leave, make a list and start planing at least three months ahead of...

I’m all for keeping a positive attitude and going for what you want. Having said that, I also believe someone’s talent or desires should be put to good use. Two points to consider.
1. A grass roots group, or a media team, are spending a lot of effort in trying to get Betty White on Saturday Night Live (SNL) to host it. In her 88 years, she has yet to host it, although she’s older than the...
