It really doesn’t matter what line of work you’re in or want to be in. They want to hire the best person for the job that is going to get the job done. Passion and drive are key to this. Even top CEO’s will tell you, don’t just come to a job, be the job.
Economically right now, employers can be even more selective. Do you have a High School Diploma? A Bachelor’s degree? A Master’s degree? Do you have the experience or just the right combination of experience and skill the employer is looking for?
So now is the time to grab your positive attitude, your resume and portfolio and show what you got.
What you say? You have a disability? No problem. Or at least it shouldn’t be. May advice still stands. Show what you do have in abilities and soon the limitations fade. Take President Roosevelt for example. So many people didn’t know he had Polio until much later. How about Tom Cruise and his Dyslexia or Marlee Matlin and her stint on Celebrity Apprentice?
It would be easy to discount any person with a disability because we assume it is a limitation. But what we lack in understanding they jump into action and just do. Marlee is the biggest fund raiser in Celebrity Apprentice history. Why? No, not because she’s deaf. Not because of just being a celebrity, because everyone on that show is a celebrity yet none raised as much as she did. So why?
Passion and drive. Whether she wins the final of Celebrity Apprentice or not, she is a winner because she goes for what she wants.
So don’t let any type of limitation stand in your way. An employer in their right mind for spotting a passionate and willing employee will look past the obvious and see the potential. If they don’t, you really didn’t need that company.
