Point Of View: Job vs. Career

No matter what your age, what is your attitude when you get up in the morning and have to go to work?

I thought so.

It is so easy to dismiss the important role you play in a career. I hear you saying, “but I am just a _____ (fill in your job description). ” Each role in life has a purpose. From student to CEO and everything in between.

So what’s this got to do with disabilities? Easy, same thing. It is even easier for a person with a disability to “check out”. Not to give it their all because maybe their new disability has changed everything they love to do. Or maybe, life is not too difficult. Or, I can just sit back and collect a check. (For those of you reading this thinking that is what people with disabilities always do, no it’s not, and it’s not all that easy to do in the first place.)

Everyone is capable of doing things. The only question is the how. But if you set your mind and body into motion, the how takes care of itself. Each of us has different abilities and we each fit into the puzzle of life. Now is not the time to check out. Now is the time to step up. Make an impact in someone’s life; your own!
