OK, here’s the thing. You think your self-esteem is good and you’re cruisin’ through your day. You’re concentrating only on you. Oh, no, that’s your exit and you’re two lanes over. No problem, you’ll just cut over and take your exit. You’re OK now.
If you were the only person in the world, self-esteem would be useless. So, being that there are lots of people around you every day, your action causes a reaction. Now it’s not as simple as the lady who spilt coffee on herself and sued McDonalds for her own actions. When you cause a reaction by someone else, it can easily be a negative one. Their half-full glass of water can now tip to a half-empty glass.
We need to be aware of our surrounding at all times, just the same way as we need to be aware of our attitude at all times. In order to stay positive we need to choose to stay positive. Plan out your approach for the day. If need be, get up a little earlier, go to bed a little earlier. Prepare for the day and you won’t be struggling to keep up with it. You won’t be cutting into someone else’s day.
One great example of this is a job interview. The interviewer is watching if you arrive early, on time, or late. Chances of landing a job improve immensely when you are early. If you’re late, you better be looking for another job.
I’ll give you another example. My roommate and I went out to dinner the other night with friends and we were going to a restaurant we know always has a waiting time. Our friends were going to meet us there at 7 pm. We got there early. Waited by the bar instead of the crowded door. Because we were early, they actually said they could seat us early. We politely said we’ll wait for the next table because our friends were not there yet. By the time our friends walked in the door, the next table was ready and we were all sitting down. Our friends said they overheard the hostess say to others, it will be at least an hour for a table.
Think about it, would you like to always be running late, raising your own stress level. Or would you like to have planned you day, put time into your schedule, for last minute changes, and still be relaxed? You decide, but remember your actions affect others.
